How to make a beautiful LinkedIn visual (without a designer)

A post with a sharp visual travels further than text alone. But "make a visual" sends most people to a blank Canva file and an hour they do not have. You do not need design skills. You need a few principles and the right format for the idea.

The principles that make a visual read

  • One idea per visual. If it needs a caption to explain it, it is doing too much.
  • Strong contrast. Dark text on light, or light on dark, never mid-grey on mid-grey.
  • Clear hierarchy. One thing should be the biggest; everything else supports it.
  • Generous space. Crowded graphics look amateur; breathing room looks designed.
  • Consistent identity. Same colours and fonts every time, so people recognize you.

Match the format to the idea

The format should fit what you are trying to say. A few that consistently work on LinkedIn:

  • Big number: one striking metric with a short context line.
  • Checklist: a short list of points, ticked off.
  • Grid (2×2): comparing options or trade-offs.
  • Chart: growth or comparison, as simple bars.
  • Timeline: a sequence or a before/after.
  • Quote: one bold line, front and centre.

Keep it on-brand, every time

The biggest mistake is a different look on every post. Your visuals should share a palette, a type style, and a feel, so the feed learns to recognize them as yours before they even read your name.

This is hard to do by hand and easy to drop when you are busy. It is the main reason to use a tool that bakes your identity into every export.

Tip. Export at the right size so the platform does not crop or compress it. See our LinkedIn image sizes guide for the exact numbers.

The fast way

Tinkta removes the blank canvas. It reads your post, picks the visual type that fits, and renders it in your brand colours, no design tool, no manual layout. You can switch types in a click and export a feed image or a link preview.

For a deeper story, it turns the post into a multi-slide carousel and exports a LinkedIn-ready PDF.

Frequently asked

What makes a LinkedIn visual look professional?

Strong contrast, one clear idea, plenty of space, and a consistent palette and type. Professional is mostly restraint: less on the canvas, done cleanly.

Do I need Canva or Photoshop?

Not necessarily. Those are powerful but slow and start from a blank canvas. A tool that generates the visual from your post in your brand colours is far faster for routine posting.

What size should the visual be?

For the feed, a portrait image at 1080×1350 performs well; for a link preview, 1200×627. Tinkta exports both at the right size automatically.
